Homestay Information
Waiheke High School has wonderful homestay families who care for students as thought they are part of their families. Social gatherings are held throughout the year, and International Department staff are always available to discuss difficulties.
The Homestay family agree to:
- provide three meals per day;
- provide the student with their own bedroom which includes a desk and study light;
- do the student’s laundry;
- assume the role of substitute parent or caregiver. This means making decisions about acceptable behaviour and some setting of limits;
- provide a safe, warm environment;
- be responsible for the whereabouts of the student after school hours;
- notify the Director of International students of any problems that may arise;
- notify the school of absences, illness;
- notify the Director of International Students of any problems or any change of circumstances
The Student will agree to:
- Notify the homestay parents of their whereabouts at all times;
- be helpful with ‘chores’ as would any other member of the family;
- follow the Rules and Responsibilities of International Students;
- notify the Director of International Students of any problems or any change of circumstances
The School agrees to:
- provide guidelines for Homestay families and any other helpful information to support the family in caring for the student;
- provide orientation for students;
- be fair and reasonable in all dealings with homestay families and students;
- visit families a minimum of twice per year and discuss the homestay situation with families and students;
- be available at all times for emergencies.
Two weeks notice is required for any homestay change.
Homestay changes are to be made through the Director of International Students.
If the student wishes to retain their homestay room over the summer vacation a 50% homestay rate will apply.
