WHS Students achieving high in science

Aiya Kondo and Liam Campbell have been studying STEM subjects at WHS . Their diligence and work ethic led to their being chosen for the two week Rotary National Science and Technology live-in Forum in Auckland. In January, along with 168 students from around the country, they stayed in University dormitories and experienced study in STEM through lectures, workshops and field trips. During the modules, Aiya and Liam were able to talk to current university students.

Seeing the projects that these students were working on strengthened Liam’s interest in engineering. “Not only did the forum show me pathways that I had never considered before, it allowed me to start thinking about which aspects interested me most.” For Aiya, Dr Michelle Dickinson was a very memorable and inspiring speaker, challenging the traditional mindset around STEM and providing a unique insight into the academic world. “I entered the Forum expecting to learn practical skills in STEM subjects. What I didn’t expect was to learn so many valuable life lessons which I will carry with me forever. “

Both students gave an excellent presentation to the Waiheke Rotary Club along with the principal, Mr Cameron Flude, and their supporting teacher HOF Science Katherine Cole.

Kia ora,

We are delighted to share the news of a significant milestone in the growth and development of Waiheke High School. After an extensive and rigorous search, we are thrilled to announce the appointment of Mr. Cameron Flude as our new principal/tumuaki.

In response to the dynamic educational landscape and with the goal of securing the best leadership for our school, the Board of Trustees moved swiftly to advertise the principal role at a time when talented individuals actively seek new opportunities.

Our commitment to a thorough and robust selection process was unwavering. We undertook a series of interviews that not only involved the Board but also included valuable input from our dedicated staff and representatives from local iwi consultation groups.

This collaborative effort ensured that diverse perspectives were considered in the decision-making process. We are proud to report that the Board, staff, and iwi were in complete alignment when it came time to select the preferred candidate.

As one of the largest organisations on Waiheke, we use a lot of power. Our power bills can be up to $3,000 per month. We are raising money for a new solar power system to save money on our power bills and contribute to a sustainable future for our kura and motu.

Check out our new solar panel sponsorship page for more details and information on how you can sponsor a solar panel for our school.
